long-wearing formula:

1. lift the eyebrow with your fingers to stretch the eyelid slightly.
2. draw a base line along the lash-line in small strokes from outer corner to inner corner filling in the gaps between the eyelashes.
3. then draw a solid line on top from outer corner
as formula is very soft, by using brush, you can blend edge of eyeline to have more softer impression.
after every usage, close the cap tightly to avoid formula getting dry and hard.

So much potential
The drawing pencil in Metallic Black (ME 01) was my absolute favorite for years. But as with several of my can't live without Shu items, it's been discontinued.
Tried this new formulation in the M Gray 05 and there's a lot to like. Every eyeliner smudges on me and this stays put. The color is lovely & natural. However, I share the same complaints about the point dulling quickly, product waste during sharpening, inconsistencies between pencils (1 caked in a weird way, another fine). If they could make the same formula in a skinny retractable pencil, this could be my to go eyeliner forever (Shu, praying you'll consider).
I'm Asian & see this color becoming the 'Seal eyebrow pencil' of eyeliners - just a super flattering color for my skin tone with incomparable staying power. I will continue to buy, while hoping the issues are addressed.

smooth and long-wearing
these glide on super smoothly, and once dried it literally stays on all day! I have dry skin so that might be contributing to the fact that it doesn't smudge one bit, but I have heard some good reviews from my friends with oily skin. It's comparable to the makeup forever liners.

Great at fast but then
First tried this liner on I loved it immediately for it is glidability and deep brown color. Later I wore it to swim and amazingly it stays on afterward without smudging! But then the flip side ...once the pencil gets dull it is impossible to draw a precise line or to shape it upward because of its texture. And worst of all, Shu does not sell any sharpener that fits the pencil size. I have used several sharpeners that I have from different brands and notjing can sharpen the lead to a point. So I am wasting a lot of it every time I sharpen it. Too bad I bought three before realizing this problem.

It's water-proof BUT........
The colors of these drawing pencils are great! They are perfect for drawing on your eyelids and upper eyeliner.
My experience in using their BLACK pencils was bad.
1. It's being used up so quickly. If you want solid black color on your eyelid, you have to apply more than one to two layers.
2. Water proofing is not enough... Throughout the day, you face produces oil by natural. Thus, the oil can kinda melt the eyeliner and cause smudge.
I would not really recommend people to get their black pencils but the colorful ones.

It kept breaking!!!
Sorry about the rating, but I really am disappointed!!!
I bought one of this drawing pencil when I was travelling in Japan, and it was amazing! I really liked it! So I ordered another color from your website.
However, the very first time I used this brand new drawing pencil, the point of the pencil lead broke....... and then I used a pencil sharpener to sharpen it, and it broke again....... so now I only used this drawing pencil twice, but there was only half of the pencil left!!!!! No kidding!! It was really frustrating when I used this "new" drawing pencil... especially before I was heading to a date and I cannot finish the eye liner and it took me half hour to sharpen it again and again and again and again because it broke every time I sharpened it.........

this used to be my holy grail eye pencil but....
They discontinued my color- M Brown 02, which is perfect for a face that is starting to age. (The black is too harsh). When Shu discontinued being carried in stores, such as Barneys, I bought all the M Brown 02 pencils that they had left in stock. Well, I just used my last one, and when I went online to order more, I found out that my color is discontinued! I ordered the chestnut brown pencil, but they seem to have changed the formula, as the tip breaks off while you are using it, causing a waste of product from re-sharpening on several occasions, & if you go over an area with the pencil, it kind of "peels" and flakes off, so the line is not uniform. (you see skin in the line). It's worse than some of the less expensive pencils that can be bought in the drugstore. Also, I have been having allergies to the new formulation, which I never had before with the old formula. My eyes tear up until I remove it with remover. This is SO DISAPPOINTING! The M Brown 02 was the absolute best pencil on the market. I recommended it to all my friends. The new colors & formulations do not compare & I would not buy these again unless they go back to the old formula. Remember Old Coke & New Coke? Sometimes change is not good.

Glides super softly & stays put all day
I tried several colours of these drawing pencils and because I love the smokey eye look, the M black is my absolute favourite! The blue black is pretty too and nice for daytime wear as the colour is not quite as intense as the M black.
The reason why I just LOVE these drawing pencils is really because they glide unbelievably softly on the eyelid and the colour does not rub off. I do let it 'set' on my lid for a minute though before fully opening my eyes as a way of ensuring that it won't transfer on my upper lid. I have tried many high end eyeliners and my preference has generally been pencils as they tend to be soft; these are the softest of all that I have tried. If you are looking for a superfine drawn line however, the liquid eyeliners are best as they do have a finer application tip.
BOTTOM LINE: if you are looking for a super soft, long wear eyeliner that draws a robust line; then it is likely, you will love using these!

Honestly, I used to love Shu Uemura but they always seem to discontinue the best products, one being the original Drawing Pencil eyeliner in M Brown. I used it for many years. It was my holy grail pencil. I was told that the dark brown would be the same but it is definitely not the same. It goes on wet, and transfers to my upper lid, and when it dries , it is waay too dry and flaky. it is not blend able and it stings my eyes. Even the color is not that nice. I don't know what happened to their products but they seem to replace them with mediocre ones. I used to wear the Face Architect smoothing fluid which was the best foundation ever, and they discontinued that.

Good Product, But...
There is nothing to say about waterproof and smudge-proof, are really good ! But just one big problem is not easy to draw a thin eyeliner and you always need to shape the pencils,that waste a lot. I just bought a liquid and a gel eye liner pen for a try and hope they will meet my needs.

Buying more of the Metallic Blue Black
I've used the M Blue Black for the last 5 years and I'm back to order more. It looks terrific with my brown eyes and stays on through out my work day. I think it's a unique color. Metallic is subtle..

I Wanted to love these pencils but...
No such luck. I Do love the color selection though. When drawing across my eyelid, the tip keeps breaking off! Every time I use it, even after putting in the fridge to try to "harden" them up, they still break off. I'd hoped it was maybe just the color I bought but after getting a few more, the Same thing happened with all of them. Ive Only had this issue with the Drawing Pencils. I've had no problems with the other eye liners. It's really a shame because of all the color choices of this item. I'll just be sticking to the few colors offered in the new Brave Beauty line.

Best eye pencil
I love these eye pencils. They are easy to apply and last all day long without any smudging apply's easy and looks and lasts like a gel. Beautiful colors and superior to other eye pencils.

THE BEST
This is by far the best eyeliner ever. It stays put even when I go run outside in the heat. My mom asked me the other day had i touched up after running and i said no , she couldn't believe it. I have been using this for over 4 years before that i used Armani and Chanel which tended to run, but when i found this gem i never looked back. I even turned my friend on to this and since then its all she uses. I have sensitive eyes that get watery , but with this they never do, even though i use it on my waterline in my eye. I buy the MBrown. dark enough but not harsh. LOVE IT

It is good but not outstanding...
The pencil is soft and the color is great.
But I don't see any difference between this one and those from M.A.C. The color still comes off a little after a couple hours. Maybe it's the issue of my skin...

Bring back Metallic Purple!
Great eyepencil...soft application yet long-lasting and gives eyes luminescent look. However, noticed that certain pencils tend to be broken and therefore need to be repeatedly sharpened.

Once Set, These Do Not Budge
These pencils are easy to use and do not drag. You can smudge them after first applying, but once they set, they are comparable to waterproof eyeliners.
Please bring back the entire collection of drawing pencils. I am running out of my pink, antique gold and silver-blue colours.
